Teachers' Materials
Middle School (Grade 6-9)
- In partnership with the Leopold Education Project, essays
from A Sand County Almanac are correlated to Project Learning Tree
activities. Middle School students will explore environmental literature
and actually enjoy reading! Follow up PLT activities reinforce basic
ecological concepts in a way that is fun, hands on and multi disciplinary.
- Project Learning Tree's newest module, Places We Live,
focuses on community issues, land use change over time and incorporates
basic GIS and GPS. Activities in this guide can be meshed easily into
thematic units for Math, Social Studies, Science and English integrated
teaching opportunities.
- Project Learning Tree's Energy & Society provides engaging
interactive activities that explore topics in energy including
conservation, natural systems, decision making, energy sources and many
others. The format is fun and relevant for today's middle school student.
- The Bulletin Board is designed for classes and students to exchange experiences with others around the state of Oklahoma and beyond.
- Students have the opportunity to share their forestry experiences through artistic creations in the Art Gallery.
- Youth Forestry and Wildlife Camp provides middle school
students, ages 13-15, the opportunity to experience natural resources first
hand at a residential summer camp and build an awareness of the
environmental benefits they offer . Camp has been ongoing for 52 years and
can be used by members of various youth organizations (ex. Scouts, 4-H, and
Campfire) that have an interest in meeting badge, record book or other
requirements.
