Teachers' Materials
Elementary (Grade 3-6)
- The elementary component, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy in Oklahoma, is a place based, experiential set of 10 units designed to explore the biodiversity and forests of Oklahoma. (see Bulletin Board)
Project Learning Tree activities are correlated with The Nature Conservancy's environmental education outreach, "Spirit of the Last Great Places" for a truly unique look at our state's natural heritage.
- The most exciting part of this project will be the sharing of experiences through art, literary works, photos etc. with the rest of the What is Forestry? virtual community. Students will be able to enter their work in the Art Gallery or post their findings to a Bulletin Board, discuss a forestry topic with another school across the state, or they may simply
use data that has been posted to write a report. Whether you are an educator or a student, this new internet community will have something for everyone.
- Project Learning Tree's Energy & Society provides engaging
interactive activities that explore topics in energy including
conservation, natural systems, decision making, energy sources and many
others. The format is fun and relevant for today's elementary school student.
- Fifth graders from across Oklahoma participate annually in the Arbor Week Poster Contest.
- The Bulletin Board is designed for classes and students to exchange experiences with others around the state of Oklahoma and beyond.
- Students have the opportunity to share their forestry experiences through artistic creations in the Art Gallery.
